12 Tips For Visiting the Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are nothing short of incredible. It honestly blew any expectations I had out of the water (literally!).

I’ll be honest in that while the Galapagos Islands were 100% on my bucket list to visit, they weren’t near the top. Why? Well, as much as I love wildlife trips, I just didn’t think the Galapagos would be nearly as exciting as spotting lions in the wild or capybara by the river in the Amazon.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. We spotted over 120 species during our time in the Galapagos including 2 species of tortoises (they are all over the place in the highlands on Santa Cruz), snorkeled with sea turtles everywhere, spotted flamingos, many Darwin finches, swam with black and white tip sharks, played with sea lions, and more!

It was mind blowing just the sheer amount of wildlife in the Galapagos…and they didn’t care we were there! Seriously. The sea lions were curious, and the sea turtles barely paid attention as we snorkeled by them whilst they munched on sea grass. Our ship even became a resting spot for frigate birds on their way to another island.

If you want to get close to wildlife (although you do have to keep 2 meters distance!), the Galapagos is honestly the place to do it.

I’m so thankful we spent a full week cruising around the central and western islands of the Galapagos. And during that time, I definitely learned some things that are so helpful to know before you go!
